Mean, median and mode calculator
The mean is the sum divided by the count; the median is the middle value once the list is sorted; the mode is the most frequent value. Paste your numbers to get all three at once.

How it works
Formula: Mean = (x₁ + x₂ + … + xₙ) ÷ n
The mean adds all values and divides by how many there are. The median sorts the values and takes the middle one (or the average of the two middle ones for an even count), so it is not pulled by extreme values. The mode is the value that appears most often; a list can have several modes or none. The standard deviation measures the spread around the mean: use the population version for a complete set, and the sample version (dividing by n − 1) when your data is a sample of a larger group.
Worked example: 12 ; 15 ; 15 ; 18 ; 20 ; 22 ; 25

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean uses every value, so one very large value pulls it up. The median is the middle value and ignores how extreme the ends are. For 1, 2, 3, 4, 100 the mean is 22 but the median is 3.
How do I find the median of an even number of values?
Sort the values and average the two in the middle. For 3, 5, 8, 10 the median is (5 + 8) ÷ 2 = 6.5.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes. In 1, 2, 2, 3, 3 both 2 and 3 appear twice, so there are two modes. If every value appears once, there is no mode.
Sample or population standard deviation?
Use the population formula when you have every value of the group you care about, and the sample formula when your values are a sample used to estimate a larger group.
