How it works

Temperature scales differ in both size of degree and zero point, so they need a formula rather than a single factor. A Celsius degree is the same size as a kelvin, while a Fahrenheit degree is 5/9 of that. Water freezes at 0 °C (32 °F, 273.15 K) and boils at 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level.
